These instructions are only for personally-owned computers. If you want to setup Thunderbird on a University-owned computer, do not use these instructions. University-owned Windows computers, for example, should run the Thunderbird configuration utility, J:\Tbird\TbirdConfig.exe.
The following instructions will help you configure Thunderbird to read your UW-RF email.
1) Launch Thunderbird. If you haven't configured it already, it will automatically start the new account configuration wizard. If the wizard doesn't start, click on the Tools menu and select "Account Settings...". After that, click "Add account"
2) Select "Email account" and click "Next".
3) Enter your name as you would like it to appear on outgoing email and enter your email address. Click "Next".

4) Click on IMAP for the incoming server type. If you wish to use UW-RF for sending email, enter mail.uwrf.edu for the "Incoming Server" and smtp.uwrf.edu for your "Outgoing Server" (if prompted). If you are in a residence hall, enter smtp.frednet.uwrf.edu instead. Click "Next". If you don't wish to use UW-RF for sending email and are not in a residence hall, you will need to enter the SMTP server provided by your ISP.

5) Enter your Falcon account username in the box provided for "Incoming User Name". Click "Next".

6) Give this account a name ("UW-RF" in the example below). Click "Next".

7. Verify the information you entered is correct. If not, use the "Back" button to correct it. When done, click "Finish".

8. If you wish to send email through UW-RF, follow the steps below.
The following instructions will help you configure Thunderbird to send email through UW-RF.
1) If you do not already have the Account Settings window open, click the Tools menu in Thunderbird and select Account Settings...
2) Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP) in the left column.
3) Enter smtp.uwrf.edu for the "Server Name". Make sure the box for "Use name and password" is checked and enter your Falcon account username in box provided. Select the SSL option under "Use secure connection". Verify the Port (next to server name) gets set to 465.
4) Click OK and you're done!
