Outlook Express 5 is commonly installed on Macintosh computers running MacOS 9. It is free and fairly easy to use, especially for users with multiple email accounts. |
These instructions assume that you have already set up Outlook Express to check the email account provided by your ISP. Unlike Netscape, it is not necessary that all accounts be configured in IMAP mode for these instructions to work.
1. Select Accounts from the Tools menu.
2. Make sure the Mail tab is showing, then click
New:

3. This will launch the Account Setup Assistant.
Enter your name in the box for display name. This is what will appear in the
"From:" field of emails you send from your UW-RF account. Click the
right arrow in the window to continue to the next step.

4. Select the bullet choice for "I already have an email
address that I'd like to use". Enter your UW-RF email address in the box
provided. It should be similar to freddy.falcon@uwrf.edu. Click the right arrow
in the window to continue.

5. Select IMAP from the incoming mail server
type popup list. Enter mail.uwrf.edu as the address in the
box provided for Incoming mail (POP, IMAP) server. Put your
ISP's SMTP server in the box for your outgoing mail server. Click the right
arrow at the bottom of the window to continue.

6. Enter your username for your Falcon account with a lowercase
'w' in
the box provided for Account ID. For security reasons, it is
not recommended that you enter your password and save it in this location. Click
the right arrow at the bottom of the window to continue with setup.
7. Give the account configuration a name (such as "UW-RF
Falcon"), then click Finish:

8. Make sure your new account is highlighted in the list, then
click the Edit button:
9. Click on the Advanced tab to display the server
folder settings. Click to put a mark in the box next to Purge messages
from IMAP folders on quit, then click OK:

10. Close the Accounts window. Your account setup is now complete.
