Outlook Express 5 is commonly installed on Macintosh computers running MacOS 9. It is free and fairly easy to use, especially for users with multiple email accounts. |
To check for new mail, simply click the Send and Receive
button in the Outlook Express Toolbar: ![]()
When an account is set up as an IMAP account, your email remains on the mail server until you tell the server to delete it. This gives the advantage of being able to see your email from other locations, but does mean that you have to be connected to the Internet to read your mail. IMAP account mail is not downloaded to your main Inbox mailbox on your computer, but is accessed slightly differently under the list of folders and mailboxes at the left side of the main Outlook Express window.
1. In the list of items at the left side of the main window, you
should find an item for UW-RF Falcon, or whatever you chose to
name it in your account setup. It should look similar to
.
Click on it to highlight it. Outlook Express will connect to the mail server
and retrieve a list of subfolders for your email account, including your Inbox.
2. Click on the INBOX item listed beneath UW-RF
Falcon to view your messages in the window panels right-hand portion
of the main window:
Transferring mail to your computer
You may have mail that you wish to keep accessible on your computer,
but delete off the mail server (where you have limited space for storage). Outlook
Express allows you to do this via the Message menu. Simply
select the email message that you want to transfer from your Inbox
window, then choose the Move To command from the Message
menu. The first time you do this, you will need to select the Move to
Folder... subitem, which will allow you to select a folder to move
it to. Recent folders are remembered and appear above the Move to Folder...
command.
