Connecting to FalconAir with Windows

Many recently manufactured Windows laptops have built-in wireless capability. It's commonly known as Wi-Fi or 802.11. These instructions are written for connecting to UWRF's wireless network, FalconAir, but can also be applied to connecting to others. Depending on the software provided with your network card, this process could vary.

Look for the wireless network icon (wireless network system tray icon) in the system tray (located in the lower right corner of your screen). Click on it.

Tip: If you do not see the wireless network icon, you can get to the same location by opening your Windows control panel (click 'Start' then select 'Control Panel'), double-clicking the 'Network Connections' control panel, then right-click 'Wireless Network Connection' and select 'Properties'. This will bring up the wireless network properties window. Put a check in the box for 'Show icon in notification area when connected'.

Clicking on the wireless network icon should bring up the Wireless Network Connection window, which will look like the following:

Make sure the "FalconAir" network is highlighted and click the "Connect" button in the lower right corner. Your laptop will connect to the wireless network and the window will then appear similar to the following:

Launch your web browser (such as Internet Explorer or Firefox). You will be directed to the FalconAir login page where you may login with your Falcon account (or assigned guest access account). If you are a UW-River Falls student, faculty, or staff member, you will be required to install the Clean Access Agent. Please see instructions for installing that here.

Once you have installed the Clean Access Agent, it will automatically prompt you for your username and password for future FalconAir wireless connections. Answers to frequently asked questions about Cisco Clean Access are available here.

You will have to re-authenticate periodically (approximately once per week) to continue using the wireless network.
