Due to the nature of wireless networking and our desire to minimize the obstacles for faculty, staff and students wishing to use FalconAir, network traffic over FalconAir is not encrypted (it does not make use of WEP or WPA). As a result it is necessary to limit the UW-RF services accessible via FalconAir to those which provide encryption as part of the service. This protects Falcon account usernames and passwords from being "sniffed" on the wireless network.
To protect campus network services, an analysis of the security of the device being connected (such as a laptop) is performed. Access to FalconAir requires login with a Falcon Account and is restricted to UW-RF faculty, staff, students and guest accounts (in support of the University mission).

System Requirements:
The device connecting must pass a network-based security scan. If the device does not pass the scan, you will be directed to a website with instructions on correcting your security.

Notably, access to UW-RF email without an SSL connection is not available via a wireless connection. Most modern email clients can be configured to use SSL, however.
System Requirements:
Computers running Microsoft Windows must have the Cisco Clean Access Agent installed and pass its security scan which includes checks for anti-virus software. Computers running other operating systems as well as other devices will automatically get this 'enhanced' access without additional steps.
