Clean access is a solution provided by Cisco, Inc. that performs network validation. The software performs the following functions:
What is the Clean Access Agent?
Clean Access Agent is the client application that can check certain security settings on any Microsoft Windows PC to make sure that the system is up-to-date with required security patches (including anti-virus software) and report this status to the Clean Access Server. No information about the user or the content of user files is sent to the server. Each user must use Clean Access Agent for his/her Microsoft Windows PC in order to authenticate and use the university network.
Why am I required to install the Clean Access Agent?
Computers connecting to the campus wireless network potentially contain harmful viruses and malware. Many worms and viruses attempt to spread to unpatched/vulnerable machines and could cause harm to other computers on the network, potentially including loss of data. IT Services determined that the best way to prevent this from happening is to insure that virus software and operating system critical update/patches are current and maintained.
How do I install the Cisco Clean Access Agent?
The Cisco Clean Access Agent is fairly easy to install. You will first need to download the installation file from the Cisco Clean Access server. After the file has been copied to your computer, double-click it to begin the installation process. You will be asked to click Next in order to proceed through the installation process. Once installation is finished, the Agent will pop up and ask you to log in. More detailed installation instructions are available here.
Will this work for Mac or Linux?
Mac and Linux users will not be asked to download and install the Clean Access Agent. They will however be required to log in with their Falcon Account through the FalconAir website periodically. Although there are no specific requirements for Mac and Linux, we do recommend that all users, regardless of operating system, install applicable security updates, use a firewall and run current anti-virus software on their computers.
Will my computer still work when I connect to my home network?
The Cisco Clean Access Agent is only active while your computer is connected to the FalconAir network. If you connect your computer to a different network, the Agent will simply lie dormant and will absolutely not interfere with an attempt to connect.
How often will I be revalidated?
We have configured the validation timer for every 7 days. This means that all previously certified "Clean Machines" will need to be revalidated to ensure that all updates for the past week have been downloaded and installed.
Where can I get anti-virus software?
McAfee VirusScan can be downloaded from this website. Enter your Falcon Account username and password, select "McAfee VirusScan Enterprise for Windows NT/2000/XP" and click "Download".
Where can I get Windows updates?
Windows updated can be downloaded from the Microsoft Windows Update website. You must access the Microsoft website using Internet Explorer - you cannot download windows updates if you are using Firefox or Opera.
