Installing Virex for Macintosh

You may wish to print these instructions.

Short instructions :-)

To install:

1. Follow the instructions on the download page to download Virex 6.1 for Macintosh OS 8.x-9.x.
2. Open the Virex Folder that has been downloaded to your hard drive.
3. Double click on the Installer icon.
4. You also need to update to the latest virus definitions, if any are available.

To update using eUpdate:

1. Launch the Virex application program.
2. Click the eUpdate button at the far right end of your Virex button-bar. The Virex application will check for updates, download them if they exist as well as install them.

To install:

Follow the instructions on the download page to download Virex 6.1 for Macintosh OS 8.x-9.x. The Virex Installer will download and automatically decode with Stuffit Expander.

You should find a Virex folder on your hard drive (in your browser's download folder - you specify this ahead of time from Options/GeneralPreferences/Applications/Downloads Directory).

Open this Folder and double click on the Installer icon inside.

You will see the Virex Installer window. Click on the scan button and have it scan your hard drive for viruses before you continue with the install.

Now click on the Install button and follow the instructions to install Virex on your hard drive.

In a few seconds you should see the message 'The installation has been completed successfully'. Click on the OK button.

IT Services recommends that you configure your Virex application to use our server for downloading updates, as you will likely get better/faster response than using the default site. To configure this, follow the instructions on the eUpdate page.

To update using eUpdate:

Launch the Virex application program.

To manually update:

Click here to download the latest Virex 6.x virus update. The Virex virus update will download and automatically decode with Stuffit Expander.

You should find a Virex_Update folder on your hard drive (in your browser's download folder - you specify this ahead of time from Options/GeneralPreferences/Applications/Downloads Directory).

Open this folder and double click on the Virex Virus Update xx_xx_xx icon.

This will open up the Virex program. Click on the Update button. It should tell you that it has been successfully installed. Click on the OK button and quit from Virex.

You should now restart your computer. Virex will be active.

You can now delete the files and folders that you downloaded into your browser's download folder.
