IT Services recommends setting up your Virex anti-viral software to grab updates from the UWRF server rather than the default server, which is run by Network Associates and serves their entire customer base. Access to our server is generally faster and more reliable.
You may wish to print these instructions.
Launch the Virex application program
Click the Preferences button in the row of buttons in the application,
as shown below:
This will open up a dialog box with a column of buttons down the left side.
Scroll until you see the EUpdate icon, then click on it. Enter ftp.uwrf.edu
in the box for "update server" (in red below), then enter /pub/mac/antivirus/virex/
in the box for "update folder" (in blue below) -- don't forget
the / at beginning and end.
Click Save to save these settings. The Virex Application Preferences dialog window will go away. You can now test your settings and perform future virus definition updates by clicking the eUpdate button at the right end of your button bar in Virex.
