Scanning the Test
Error Messages

Once the student answer sheets and the key sheet(s) have been filled in, you are ready to scan the sheets, score the test and print any results that you want.
Stacking the answer sheets.
Stack the sheets in this order:
key sheet(s)
optional letter grade key
student answer sheets/absent student sheets (optional)
optional result sheet(s)
Operating the scanner
If necessary move the MAXIMUM SHEET LEVEL guide for your forms - it needs to be in a different position depending on whether you are using the half or full sheet forms.
Depress the input tray lever (marked PRESS TO LOAD) and while keeping it depressed, place your forms in the input hopper tray (on the right hand side of the scanner). The black timing marks (which are located on the left hand edge of the scanning sheets) should be closest to you and the top of the sheet should go into the scanner first.
Release the input tray lever.
The scanner operator panel should display the message:

Press the Yes button.
See the WARNING at the end of this section if this message is NOT showing.
As each answer sheet passes through the scanner and the printer a number correct and percent correct will be generated and printed on each sheet. At the same time (if previously requested) incorrect responses, combined points earned, combined percent correct and letter grade will also be marked.
If you have included results sheets after the answer sheets these will be printed on next.
When you have finished scoring your test and any result sheets that you want have been processed, then you should press the Quit button on the scanner.
A message - Results will be lost - will appear in the window and if you really want to quit press the Yes button. The scanner will now be ready to score another test.
WARNING: If
is showing in the display when you are ready to score a new test, then the key to a previous test is still in the scanner's memory, and your test (including your key) will be scored with the previous key if you press the Start button. This may not be obvious to you at first if you have the same number of questions as the previous test. If you suspect something like this has happened, check the roster number printed on the first answer sheet - it should be 1.
You need to clear the previous key before you put your key in. To do this, press the Quit button and answer Yes to 'Results will be lost Quit?'You should now see the message 'Perform Test Scoring' and it is ready to score a new test.
This section lists error messages appearing on the scanner's operator panel and describes how to fix the errors. They are listed in alphabetical order. An illustration of the scanner identifying the different parts of it may be helpful to refer to as you read the explanations of some of the error messages.

The Key ID marked on the answer sheet does not match any key that has been scanned. Check the key(s) to see the appropriate Key ID choices and change the answer sheet. Then press the Continue button to re-scan the answer sheet. |

The # of Keys grid is complete, so the key should be identified in the Key ID grid. Complete the Key ID grid, or if you are not using multiple keys, erase the mark made in the # of Keys grid. Then press the Continue button and re-scan the sheet. |

This answer sheet has no Points Earned marked. Fill in the Points Earned grid. Press the Continue button and re-scan the sheet. |

The Points Earned on the answer sheet are greater than the possible Points Earned defined on the key. Check to see the Points Earned grid is completed correctly on the answer sheet. If not, change it and press the Continue button to re-scan the sheet. If it is correct, check the key. If the Points Earned grid is incorrectly defined, you will need to re-scan the corrected key and any answer sheets that have been scanned. |
