TEC Operation Guide for Phase 1-4

The following instructions will help you make use of the equipment located in the Technology Enhanced Classrooms.

illustration 1

  1. Unlock front doors and open. Lift up cover and gently set down on top of cabinet. Detach keyboard tray and adjust for height. For safety, some of keyboard trays have been fixed due to mechanical failure. Please observe each cabinet you use to be sure you don’t try to adjust a fixed KB tray.
  2. Locate the Main Power switch (yellow in illustration 1) on right side of the cabinet (just below the document camera shelve). Turn switch to “On” position.
  3. Locate “Projector Power” button (green in illustration 1) on Extron A/V switch. Push button and watch for red light to flash. Confirm that the LCD projector is on and warming up (this will take a couple of minutes).
If switch fails to turn projector on, use the remote control to power on and off the projector. Report the problem to ITS as soon as possible.
  4. Lower screen by pushing down on the two directional switch located on a wall either behind or beside the cabinet. Pushing the switch up will raise the screen.

  5. Turn on all the sources that you want to use for the class (for example, the PC or the VCR or the Macintosh).
  6. Select the source (red in illustration 1) that you want to use first on the Extron switch
If you wish to use a laptop, connect the VGA output of the laptop to the "computer" input (violet in illustration 1) located on the front of the Extron switch and select "Laptop"
Note: The LCD projector must be in RGB 1 mode for computers and video mode for the VCR and document camera. If pushing the source button does not switch the projector mode, simply push and hold the source (e.g.: PC) button for 4 seconds and release. This should cycle the projector to the next available input. Continue to do so until the source you want appears on the screen
  7. Log into the computer(s) that you want to use. Please follow the procedure guide that is posted in all the TEC cabinets for instructions on workstation login, Novell login, and accessing network drives.
  8. Infrared controlled remote mice are available for your convenience. For best results, aim at the IR sensors located on top of the cabinet.
Note: Please use the Extron switch to relay ALL commands to the LCD projector. Only use the projector remote control as a last resort IF the Extron refuses to control the projector. This will ensure that the switch does not get “confused.” Do NOT use the controls on the surface of the LCD projector!! Doing so can render the TEC inoperative for the next user! Report all power control or switching problems to ITS immediately and the problem will be given high priority.
  9. The audio control (blue in illustration 1) is located on the right side of the switch. Turn audio knob clockwise to increase the volume for all sources and counter- clockwise to decrease the volume for all sources.
Do NOT adjust volume controls or power down the amplifier!! Doing so can render the TEC inoperative for the next user! Report any audio problems to the ITS Helpdesk and they will be given high priority.
  10. When finished, be sure to power down all computers, then push the“Projector Power” button on the Extron switch. Wait until the red light stops flashing, then turn the Main Power switch to the “Off.”position.
Please be sure the LCD projector and TEC cabinet are powered down before you leave the room!
