Document Camera

Most Permanent TECs will have a Document Camera. There are three cameras you may find in a Permanent TEC:
Samsung
, Elmo or Sony.

Samsung SDP-950 or SDP-6500

Samsung-1 Samsung-2 Samsung-3

To turn the camera on, press the green power button on the left side. In order to raise the camera arm, hold the grey button down (upper left corner) and then pull the arm up. Position the lens head to your object.

To use the camera and project the image, please remember to select button 5 (doc cam) on the extron switch.

Last but not least, please be sure to remove the round end cap on the camera lens itself or all you will see is black on the screen.

Below you will see an expanded view of the buttons. There are many uses for this equipment.

  1. Projecting text forms or papers
  2. Projecting objects
  3. Transparencies (hint: use the lower lamp)
  4. Pictures, slides, and even negatives (hint use the neg/posi button)
  5. Can you think of more?

Button Options:
Samsung SDP-950 buttons

Nega/Posi – This button displays a negative image of the current picture. Pressing it again will toggle back to positive. This is useful for film negatives that are shown.

Aperature – This allows you to toggle between optimal light spectrum for either image or text. When pressed, the mode will toggle between “image” or “text.”

Zoom – Allows you to zoom into the very center of the document. This cannot be used to zoom into any other portion, so you need to move the document as you see fit to put the focus in the center. Top arrow zooms in, lower arrow zooms out.

Auto Focus – This option uses camera presets to handle your picture in a default way for its viewing conditions. Pressing will use a default focus technique on the document being viewed.

Freeze – This option allows you to freeze what is currently being viewed. After pressed, the image is frozen, and you can move whatever was on the document camera off without the image on the projector screen being lost. To undo this, press freeze again.

Iris – This is used to adjust brightness. The negative button (left side) will make the image less bright, while the positive button (right side) will make the image more bright.

Lamp – This button cycles 3 times. The cycles are “Upper,” “Lower,” and “None.” Using the upper lamp works best for viewing pieces of paper and pictures. The lower lamp works much better for viewing transparencies, being light originates from the bottom rather than the top.

AWC – Automatic White Control. Controls the level of white found in the document in order to adjust color automatically.

Int/Ext – Ext 1 and Ext 2. Selects the device being projected and functions differently in different rooms. The illumination of the two green lights lets you know what will be projected. In some rooms, the selection will happen automatically when the touchpad is used to project images. You generally don’t have to worry about this button.
