| Eudora is free program for checking, managing and sending email. These instructions will guide you through accessing your UW-RF email using Eudora as an IMAP email client. Please make sure your Eudora application is set up based on our instructions. |
To check for new mail, simply choose Check Mail from the File menu.
When an account is set up as an IMAP account, your email remains
on the mail server until you tell the server to delete it. This gives the advantage
of being able to see your email from other locations, but does mean that you
have to be connected to the Internet to read your mail. IMAP account mail is
not downloaded to your main In mailbox on your computer, but
is accessed slightly differently under the Mailbox menu:
The Inbox window for an IMAP account will show the messages that are actually on the mail server and their status. If you disconnect from the Internet, you may not be able to read those messages unless you reconnect. Eudora can be told in the settings for your UWRF personality to download and "cache" (keep a temporary copy of) your email on your computer.
Transferring mail to your computer
You may have mail that you wish to keep accessible on your computer,
but delete off the mail server (where you have limited space for storage). Eudora
allows you to do this via the Transfer menu. Simply select
the email message that you want to transfer from your Inbox
window, then select the mailbox you wish to transfer it to from the Transfer
menu:
