Installing the ValiCert SSL Certificate

The provider of the security certificate that is used to encrypt data between your web browser and certain UW-RF secure web sites (such as faa.uwrf.edu) is not recognized by older versions of MacOS X (notably those older than MacOS X 10.3). The symptoms of this problem are security encryption errors and warnings when trying to access the Falcon Account Administration website (or other UW-RF sites that use the same certificate provider) using Apple's Safari web browser or Microsoft Internet Explorer for Macintosh.

Internet Explorer error message:

The solution to this problem is to install the SSL root certificate for ValiCert (the company which "signed" the SSL certificates we use).

IT Services has created an installer for MacOS X 10.2 systems which will install the certificate and allow you to access affected websites without encryption errors. It is available from our Macintosh FTP area.
