Changing your MacOS X Password

Follow the instructions below to change the password for your MacOS X workstation account. This change does not affect your falcon account logins, though the username may be the same.

MacOS X 10.2 (Jaguar) | MacOS X 10.3 (Panther) | MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger)

MacOS X 10.2 (Jaguar)

1) Open "System Preferences" (select from the Apple menu)

2) Click on "Accounts"

3) Select your account from the displayed list and click the "Edit" button.

4) Enter your current password and press the return/enter key. If you don't know your current password, you will need to contact IT Services for assistance.

5) Enter your new password - type it once in the first box and press the tab key or click to type in the second box and type it again (to make sure you didn't make a mistake the first time).

6) Click the "Save" button at the bottom of the window. You will get a warning about your "keychain" password being changed. Click "OK". If prompted for your current Keychain password, enter your old password.

MacOS X 10.3 (Panther)

1) Open "System Preferences" (select from the Apple menu)

2) Click on "Accounts"

3) Select your account from the displayed list and your account information should appear on the right side of the window.

4) Click in the "Password" box

5) Start typing a new password. A box will appear prompting you for your current password. Type it and click "OK".

6) Now you can type a new password. Type it once in the first password box and press the tab key or click to type in the second box and type it again (to make sure you didn't make a mistake the first time).

7) Click "Picture" (or some other button on the window) to save changes. You will receive a prompt that your Keychain password is being changed. You can click "OK" to that message.

MacOS X 10.4 (Tiger)

1) Open "System Preferences" (select from the Apple menu)

2) Click on "Accounts"

3) Select your account from the displayed list and your account information should appear on the right side of the window.

4) Click in the "Password" box (if it's not already highlighted) then click "Change Password..."

5) Enter in your current password in the box provided for "Old Password", then continue to step 6.

6) Now you can type a new password. Type it once in the first password box and press the tab key or click to type in the second box and type it again (to make sure you didn't make a mistake the first time).

7) Click "Change Password" to save your change. You will receive a prompt that your Keychain password is being changed. You can click "OK" to that message.
