Enabling Video Mirroring on a Macintosh

Setting up a Macintosh laptop with a projector is more or less the same as described in setting up a laptop computer and LCD projector. It is possible that video mirroring may not be enabled when the computer is booted up. The steps below outline how to enable this and assume that a projector is connected to the laptop and both are powered up.

How to tell if you need to enable video mirroring:

If your projector is displaying an image of the desktop background or background pattern, then the projector is set up as an extension of the desktop and mirroring needs to be enabled.

Instructions for enabling video mirroring on Mac OS 9:

  1. Open the "Monitors" control panel.
  2. Click on the "Arrange" button
  3. After clicking on "Arrange", the window will display the current arrangement of monitors. It should appear similar to the following:
  4. The small monitor icons are draggable. To enable mirroring, simply drag on icon on top of the other (and release the mouse button).
  5. Close the "Monitors" control panel when done.
