This guide highlights the network resources new employees are likely to need and describes how to obtain them. Our goal is to give new employees access to these resources as early as possible.
First step: Human Resources
When a new employee is hired, Human
Resources enters them in the employee database. This is the essential first
step in setting up any network accounts for the new employee. You can find out
whether a new employee has been entered in the employee database by checking
the online phonebook from the Campus
Information Desk. When the new employee appears there, we can begin to setup
other network accounts. For certain temporary or limited term employees, Human
Resources does not enter the employee in the employee database. For these employees,
please request a long-term
guest account from IT Services.
Network accounts
IT Services recommends that all employees that will be working with computers
have a Falcon and a NetWare account.
The Falcon account provides access to email, to certain shared file
systems and to other important network
services. The NetWare account provides access to the faculty/staff Home and
Department file systems on the network as well as network printing.
Computer setup
If the new employee will be receiving a new computer, they will receive a packet
of information and forms from IT Services. Please complete the paperwork and
return it to IT Services. We will configure and deliver the computer when it
arrives.
If the employee will be using an existing computer, please ask IT Services to configure the computer for the new employee. If the new employee needs software not already installed on the computer, submit a site-license software request form.
New faculty or academic staff
Those who are teaching classes at the university will find additional resources
in eSIS. Using this tool, faculty
can request course rosters, setup a courses folder to distribute and collect
electronic files, and more.
If the new employee will be using a Technology Enhanced Classroom, they should request training from IT Services and secure a key from facilities management.
