Computer viruses are a significant problem these days. Getting a computer virus exposes the user to lost time, lost data and the ire of colleagues to whom we may pass our viruses.

Our campus has acquired a site license for antivirus software from Network Associates. This site license entitles us to distribute the software to all current faculty, staff and students of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. These users may install and use the software at the university or on their home computers.

This software is not free, however. Users who are not current faculty, staff or students at UW-River Falls must not use this software without obtaining a license from Network Associates. Significant financial and legal penalties apply to individuals who violate this license agreement.

If you qualify, you may install this software in your home or office by downloading it from this web area. McAfee antivirus software is available for Windows Vista, 2003, XP, 2000 ME, 98, 95, and NT. Virex is available for Macintosh computers running MacOS 8.x through 9.x or MacOS X version 10.2.6 - 10.4.x (G3, G4 or G5 only). McAfee VirusScan for Macintosh is available for MacOS X 10.4.6 or better. Please do not proceed unless you are qualified as described above to download and install this software.

Additionally, if for certain difficult-to-remove viruses on the Windows platform, Stinger is a stand-alone virus removal tool. Follow the link for a current list of viruses it removes as well as download and usage instructions for it.
