The Customer Support (CS) team, a component of Information Technology Services, supports University students, faculty and staff in the effective use of computing hardware, software, network and information services to achieve their academic and professional goals.
1. A help desk that provides assistance to University Faculty, Staff and Students having problems with computer hardware, software and services supported by IT Services, the campus local area network, and data communications. It will provide first response to the problems cited above, referral to the proper service provider if unable to assist, direct assistance to walk-in clients, and will provide staff and direct support for centrally located computer labs and secondary support for remotely located labs.
2. Training. Customer Support will ensure that appropriate IT training is provided for faculty, staff and students on supported hardware, software and network services. This will be accomplished by providing either direct instruction, or facilitating the use of other faculty and staff, or outside resources to meet requirements.
3. Documentation. Customer Support will, in collaboration with other expert staff, produce and distribute the necessary user documentation to support IT programs and services. This may in some cases involve the distribution of software on floppy diskettes and other media.
4. Provide support for microcomputers and standard desktop systems used by faculty and staff on campus. Standard microcomputer systems are defined and approved by IT Services. The types of support include procurement, hardware and software installation, response to failures, troubleshooting of hardware and software, hardware and software repair and support of various desktop clients and application programs.
