Navigating the IT Services web site

The new IT Services web site has been designed to serve your needs and interests. We hope the organization of our site will make it as easy as possible to find what you need. If you are a frequent user of our site or are having trouble finding your way around, you may find it helpful to learn more about how our web site works. This page will explain how to use the navigational tools found on our pages.

The IT Services web site offers a Search tool and a Site Map, but there are other navigational aids found on each of our pages.

Anatomy of an IT Services web page

Navigation at the top

The top of most IT Services web pages display the UW-River Falls word mark graphic and an IT Services logo header. These will take you to the UW-River Falls homepage and the IT Services homepage, respectively.

Below this you will find the main navigation bar. The top part of the navigation bar has links remain the same throughout the site. These three elements, the UW-River Falls word mark graphic, the IT Services logo header, and the top part of the navigation bar, appear unchanged on nearly all IT Services web pages. The left part of this bar has links to the five main areas of IT Services web site:
Info & News, Facilities, Support, Services, and Connections
On the right are the Search ITS and the Help images.

Here is a description of where these links lead:

Info & News

Basic information regarding IT Services, including staff profiles, policies and news, and information about your IT Services facilities.

Facilities

IT Services supports a variety of facilities on campus, including computer labs, the television studio and technology-enhanced classrooms.

Support

Find information about Internet applications as well as other software, including network accounts and McAfee VirusScan. Also includes tips, training resources, and information on workshops.

Services

Find forms for requesting IT services such as software requests, trouble reports and reservation requests. You can also send us a comment or take a survey here.

Connections

Access online applications such as email, account management, online courses, and more.

Search ITS

Leads to a Search form with information on how to effectively search this site

Help

Information on how to find what you need — including a Help form to send us your question or comment

The second line of the navigation bar has tabs which indicate where you are presently in the web site.

The tabs are in the order ITS Home => Facilities => Comp. Labs. They indicate that the page you are viewing is in the Computer Labs area which is part of the Facilities area, which in turn is a part of the whole IT Services web site (ITS Home ).

• Clicking on Computer Labs would bring you to the main Computer labs page.
• Clicking on Facilities would bring you to the main Facilities page.
• Clicking on ITS Home will always bring you to the IT Services home page.

Remember, you can always use the upper navigation bar to quickly go to another part of our web site.

The bottom of the page

The main content of the page will follow the navigation bars. If there are related links you will see the related links graphic below the page content.

Below that are links to pages with similar or complimentary content to the current page. For instance, if you are looking at the details of the Red computer lab, there may be a related link to a page where you could reserve the lab.

The UW-River Falls trailer follows the related links and provides links to search or find information about the entire UW-River Falls web page.

The toolbar at the very bottom of IT Services web pages contains a email link which would allow you to email the IT Services web management team. Click on IT Services Web Team to report a broken link, a comment, question or suggestion. We appreciate hearing from you.

The right side of the toolbar is a link to a Site Map for the IT Services web site. There is also a Search form for quickly searching the IT Services site.
